Barack Obama on Social Security Staffing

Waiting times are bad if you walk into a Social Security office for help. The reason is staffing cuts and a steadily increasing number of visitors to Social Security offices. It’s not all Disability claims, over 10,000 people are reaching retirement age EVERY DAY in the USA. That means a LOT of people will be crowding into your local Social Security office on a daily basis from now on. Social Security is trying to take care of the retirement application crush by encouraging people to file their own claims online and encouraging people to not go into the office at all. Of course, many people prefer to talk to someone in person when they file for their retirement benefits, so it is not necessarily a solution to the problem.

President Eisenhower on Social Security

President Eisenhower wrote a letter to his brother Edgar on November 8, 1954, and said this about Social Security;

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.
